“Now class, we have a new student here to join us. Please welcome her!” introduced the teacher.

A girl stepped into the class room with her bag slung over her shoulder. Her hair was a dark brown colour, worn at shoulder length. The fringe was kept out of her eyes by a few black hair clips. She wore fingerless gloves, the school jacket over the uniform white shirt and brown knee high boots. Unfortunately for the boys, her skirt was not too short. She looked at the class and bowed. “Hey, I’m Ma Yun Lu. Nice to meet you. I hope you won’t eat me.”

A few guys whistled. Well, she was quite an attractive young woman, but Diao Chan was still the ultimate beauty.

“Hey, she’s hot,” whispered Zhang Fei.

“Fei…” warned Guan Yu.

Huang Zhong smiled as he and Yun Lu made eye contact. He turned to his friend Ma Chao and nudged him. “What’s up with you? Love at first sight?”

Ma Chao’s mouth was agape as he stared at the girl. “What the hell is she doing here…” he muttered before standing up. “Mei mei!” he shouted.

“Oh hey bro! Guess I found the right classroom!” replied Yun Lu. She strolled down the aisle towards the seat the teacher allocated for her, next to Ma Chao. Very nice.

“Chao’s sister?” could be heard going right around the classroom.

It was Huang Zhong’s turn to gape now. It was her. Ma Yun Lu. She and Ma Chao were twins, but did not look very similar. Being Ma Chao’s friend since god knows when, he had also come to know Ma Yun Lu. And he had nightmares about her. She always forced him to piggyback her around the place and the strain it put on your back was hell.

“Hey Zhong, haven’t seen you in a while,” said Yun Lu as she came across his table.

“Yeah…” Zhong tugged at his collar as he needed more air. Yun Lu smirked as she watched Zhong go nervous. She leaned down and whispered into his ear, “Care to gimme a piggyback ride?”

Zhong fell over in his chair.

Yun Lu burst out laughing. “I was only kidding!”

“Right…very funny Yun Lu,” said Zhong as he righted his chair and sat in it again.

“I missed you.” Yun Lu gave him and genuine smile and leaned down to peck him on the cheek.

Huang Zhong almost stacked again. He went bright red and really badly needed fresh air.

“Woah, I think she flirts better than you, Yun,” said Zhang Fei to Zhao Yun. He smirked.

“I don’t think so…”

Yun Lu finally got to her desk and sat down. Ma Chao, seemingly oblivious to the rendezvous between her and Zhong immediately interrogated her sister, firing question after question.

“Why are you here? Aren’t you supposed to be in Rome studying? Did mum let you come back? Did you tell grandpa? Did you tell dad as well? Why didn’t you tell me? Did you know that grandpa has published another book? Are you in some sort of financial difficulty? What—”

“Hey, hey, one at a time Chao…oh maybe at lunch time,” muttered Yun Lu making an apologising gesture to the glaring teacher who was about to mark the role.

“Fine.”

“Xiahou Dun!” called the teacher.

“Here!” said the one-eyed man. His dead eye was covered by an eye patch. He reminded everyone of a pirate. They say he fell then a flight of stairs, hit a rubbish bin then rebounded onto table, rolled off the table and impaled his eye on a hockey stick. Or so the story goes.

“Gan Ning!”

No answer. He was away yet again.

“Zhao Yun!”

“Here!” replied Zhao Yun, raising a hand.

Yun Lu turned to look at Yun and their eyes locked as if they were having some type of mind clash. They stared at each other for a really long time, not blinking once. Finally, Zhao Yun looked away and Yun Lu raised her hand when her name was called. God, what the heck was that? she thought, stealing a glance at the man with short brown hair. He looked off somewhere else in wonder.

“I didn’t hear the sound of a shattering heart.”

“Haha, fail Yun, fail!” replied Fei. “I never knew you actually wanted to hear it…”

“I don’t! And now I’ve found two people whose hearts don’t break upon separating eye contact! Her and Diao Chan,” said Zhao Yun.

Meanwhile, Yun Lu decided to stop wondering about what Zhao Yun was all about. She felt her heart shatter. “What the…”

“Hah, suck!” yelled Zhang Fei. Yun Lu turned around and glared at him.

“Shut up!” she yelled pointing an accusing finger at Fei.

“Guess it’s back to one person, Diao Chan…” muttered Zhao Yun, his eyes wandering over to the said girl’s best friend, Xiao Qiao.

Xiao Qiao leaned over to Yun Lu. “What was that about?”

Yun Lu smiled. “Your face tells me you’re jealous or suspicious of something. Zhao Yun?”

Xiao Qiao blushed and looked away. “What, what are you talking about?”

“No worries, you just answered my question.”

Class started and the teacher once again gave a really simple maths test.

“So Yun Lu, I’ll give you a nice maths question since you’re new. What’s 1x3?” asked the teacher with a patronising expression.

Yun Lu stared, her mouth agape. What the heck, how easy is that? Must be some stupid trick question, she thought. She answered anyway. “…3?”

“Ah, good job!” praised the teacher. “I’ll go to English now. Liu Bei, this is your question. What is the past tense of run?”

Yun Lu started laughing. What the hell with the simplicity of the questions?

“Ran…” answered Liu Bei. He looked at Yun Lu. She was a person of the Iron Dimension, but she actually had an academic brain! Yay, he could stop feeling like a nerd.

“Why are you laughing Yun Lu?” asked the teacher.

“I was humoured by…a thought,” replied Yun Lu calmly. The teacher looked at her suspiciously but turned to someone else and asked them a question. In truth, Yun Lu had already finished high school in Rome. She had skipped some grades because of her brain was a little more developed than others.

The bell rung. The lesson ended and it was lunchtime.
